So after 48hrs of no contact from edmonton, someone finally got back to me, to tell me to get an x-ray done asap, no waiting, no time as they wouldn't get the results in time if I waited to finish cooking etc to do so. So I did as they asked and dropped everything, wasting food I cannot afford to waste especially with barely working the last few months, and rushed her in for the chest x-ray. and.....didn't hear back from anyone! of course! So at 4pm when their office was closed I called calgary asking for advice and help since clearly I wasn't getting it from edmonton. Edmonton also told me to cap the drain to prevent it from draining. This immediately started causing her extreme pain and within a couple hours was physically unable to move on her own, or at all, not even taking a deep breath or yawning could be done and was in immense pain crying and begging for pain meds to help! Calgary told me to page edmonton ppl thru the hospital since they never got back to me as promised, and I managed to get to someone that way thankfully, even though the switchboard originally said they couldn't help that way, once I explained the situation after 10 min waiting they found someone for me and now finally the ball is rolling and they are taking things serious!
I'd been given the go ahead to uncap and reuse the old dirty bag and tubing (risking infection tho)....because brooks does not carry any of the materials needed for the drain, I double checked at home care today even. So.... I sterilized that best I could, and reconnected it and gave her codeine. They're going to see if Brooks can do the ultrasound, but of course after 4 they are closed....coordinator is hoping they can and will give them an answer in the morning, or we'll have to see if we can get up to calgary tomorrow for one on such short notice.
The Dr is now thinking, like before that yes there is a blockage and this is now serious. Grrrr....3 days...going on 4 to finally decide oh hey, maybe it's not a virus and the mom actually knows what she's talking about! AGAIN! Tomorrows friday....we better not be stuck waiting over the weekend to deal with this. They are speaking to the surgeon to see about needing to replace the tube, and the coordinator is going into work on her day off in the am to make sure things are being dealt with and on top of, thank god, finally!!!!
Feeny has some relief since uncapping the drain...but her pain isn't coming down like it was before the last uncapping, so they've just caused her more issues and unnecessary pain...even with the codeine to help she's not able to move herself. We've been working hard to keep her eating too, she doesn't want to so I'm constantly getting or making her favorites to entice her, and trying to keep her fluid intake up, as she is in the bathroom 15 or more times a day now with tummy issues.
It's been a rough 3 days.... she'll be NPO ( no food or fluids) after midnight tonight in the hopes she'll get an ultrasound done somewhere at some point in time tomorrow...so hopefully she doesn't dehydrate waiting...
