We got some answers today after seeing home care and our family doctor. The site looks good...still a healing wound, with lots of scar tissue...won't be a pretty scar in the end they said... but oh well. We'll just add it's count to the rest, and the future ones, lol.
The doctor confirmed what I suspected; that it is nerve pain causing the pain she is experiencing. He thinks the nerves are trying to heal around the drain tube in the rib cage And with the trauma of the two insertions of the tubes, one of them being too big originally, (I'd suspect that didn't help,) and with leaving the last hole open to heal causing more scar tissue then normal to build up to try to close it and the one with the tube together and around the tube, it's resulting in the extremely sharp, electrical, stabbing, pulsing, pain she's been experiencing of the nerves trying to heal.
He's prescribed codeine for when the pain occurs. He wasn't comfortable using nerve meds as their interaction with her current meds are iffy and are harsh on the liver, which we can't risk.
I'm relieved to know nothing serious is going on with her...but I feel for her, I know nerve pain, it's extremely painful....probably some of the worst pain a person can endure and pain meds rarely work :( It's going to be a matter of toughing through it, hopefully they'll heal quicker then most nerves do for her sake!
