Today was Feenys' first day back to school, and myself back to work. Unfortunately sunday night Feeny started having pain around her drain area....enough to ask for pain meds. I gave her tylenol....the right dose this time, (I discovered in edmonton from doctors after the second drain was put in, that the dose I had been told by a pharmacist to give her was way too low (a 3rd of the real dose needed) for her age and weight.....poor kiddo). So the right dosage with an actually effective amount she got. lol It seemed to help and she slept fine through the night.
She went off to school feeling fine, but just over an hour later I received a call from her asking for pain meds again. That her pain was at a 7-8 out of 10. She didn't want to go home from school when I asked though, just wanted tylenol to help with the pain so she could continue at school. I dropped some off with her shortly after. Then I received another call from her 3 hours later asking for more pain meds, her pain was at an 8. I told her I couldn't give her anymore, it was too soon from the last one...She then asked to come home to rest then. So she didn't quite make it a full day at school :(
She started to quickly get better after though. Several times throughout the evening it would happen again where the pain would come on suddenly and fiercely and subside completely shortly after. I contacted edmonton, homecare, and her family doctor. Appointments are booked for tomorrow as edmonton is concerned, and we'll take pictures to send them as well for reference for the doctors up there.
The wound site still is weeping fluid enough to show through the gauze layers covering it daily. The flesh is also overgrowing from the looks of it...wondering if this is still the body trying to reject the drain? I'm also wondering if the pain she is experiencing is nerve pain? Which can be excruciating, heighten to an intense sharp peak then drop rapidly as I've experienced.
Either way, hopefully after tomorrows couple appointments and a mostly cancelled day of work and missed school, we'll have some idea of what it is. We'll try again wednesday! LOL
