Good News!! We may be released from hospital Friday or Saturday, depending how she does and if she starts moving on her own thru the pain and eating. We will need to stay in Edmonton to be near the hospital for a few days to monitor how she does once off IV antibiotics that she doesn't develop sepsis, and that the drain in her side is working, no blockages, and that I can flush it, change it and care for it. In 6 weeks she will need to come back for the same procedure and they will check to see if it worked and possibly balloon out the duct again, if it worked they would remove the drain. There is the chance this procedure could cause scaring of the duct, which they will find out when they go back in, and they will need to do the big surgery regardless in the end. There is the chance of reoccurance of all this, even after she stabilizes and this is a success, in the future and result in needing the big surgery. But right now they can maintain her this way and avoid all the scary risks the other surgery would come with :) I swear things are going well only because I was actually prepared for once to stay the long haul! LOL Never fails any other time with her that we are constantly delayed with one thing after another with her medically any other time keeping us longer then anticipated! I am still waiting for someone to teach me how to care for her drain in her side as well. Hopefully they find someone soon.... and we figure out what materials and equipment will cost to maintain the drainage tube the next 6 weeks as well. She's doing a bit better today, I even was able to give her a sponge bath in the shower. It'll be awkward once home to give her showers, as she needs her side taped up to cover the drain, but she's allergic to all tapes, of course, and then have an extending shower head to expel a thin stream of water to wash her with and try not to get the tape wet so it loosens and comes off exposing the drain site and risking infection. It'll be hard for her as well during the months she has the drain and bag to function normally, she will have to be very very careful that it doesn't catch on anything and rip it out. It's also large, heavy and hard to hide or even keep tucked into her clothes :( She'll be restricted alot in the next few months till they pull the drain, with some risks from it as well.
