We are home....they released us from hospital this evening and I drove us back to Brooks. I'm unsure how long we'll be out of hospital though...she's had constant nausea in hospital and drove most of the way home with the window down a bit to help keep her cooler then the AC could to help with it. She's never had car sickness and this nausea started yesterday... Her temp still fluctuates as well just on that borderline fever mark. She will barely eat as well, and put herself to bed shortly after getting home. She complained of feeling like she can't breathe....but her temp hasn't escalated and her breathing looks and sounds fine. I don't know what's going on with her but it's worrisome.
They can't find anything in the results to indicate what kind of infection and where it originated from that was attacking her system. She's on 2 separate antibiotics for the next while in the hopes they are covering all forms of bacteria it could be through oral antibiotics. We know it was an infection somewhere as she responded immediately to IV antibiotics and was in serious condition monday night, and all her bloodworks indicated an issue in her body it was trying to deal with... we just don't know what or where and probably never will.
The same occurred back in February, though we were sure the source was the sludge so didn't dig too deeply into it when results came back negatively. It was without a doubt sepsis then, and they did say it's not unusual to have negative cultures come back. Still frustrating not knowing what it was and why she's not doing well now and it starting a few days after the initial incident...So we will see how she does off IV antibiotics and onto lower oral doses.
If she becomes worse again, we'll of course be readmitted to childrens hospital in calgary. So I'll basically be washing clothes and repacking and living out of our suitcases the next few days in anticipation of a repeat rush trip back up to hospital...
