Finally around 4pm yesterday People got back to me from Edmonton and Calgary but not with much info. Just to do bloodworks and stool collection samples. And the Edmonton doctors theory it may just be a reaction to a virus...but that doesn't and they themselves COULDN'T explain it either; the pain in the chest, unable to stand straight, lay flat and the excess bile and agreed NONE of that coincides with a viral bug. Only her head cold which is already getting better by day 3 would be, and possibly her upset tummy, though that also coincides with too much bile in her intestines, just like last time. And then I was told take her to the ER if she worsens etc and maybe the doctor in Edmonton will take it more seriously! what?! So we'd go and wait 6-8hrs in a germ filled and potentially deadly area in the ER to see a doctor who is not going to do anything but call them as well and let them know and ship us off to them if they can? So no more then what I've already been trying to do? They can't even do an ultrasound here apparently to check placement of the drain, so most they can do is the bloodworks which I don't need to go to the ER for! Why would I risk her health even more and make her suffer in pain that much in a hard chair to have a doctor here do what I've already done several times?! I'm so frustrated with them again...
This morning I had some hope things were getting better for a brief period of time. Phoenix woke up unusually tired, but had a fairly good night with only some coughing and minor pain. I checked her temp several times throughout the night and woke her to see her pain level, and she was doing ok. Her bag was empty and no more bile had drained out through the evening and night, so I removed it and flushed the drain as the last stuff through it had looked thick and sticky and I didn't want to risk a blockage occurring. I left the bag off and capped it so we could go to her bloodworks and since it was no longer draining wasn't needed. But while at the lab she started having severe pains in her chest and suddenly could no longer stand up straight again. Still very tired too. Lab tech thought she looked pale and felt hot. Took her home and checked her temp but still normal. used 2 thermometers just in case! She went back to sleep as soon as we walked in the door....She's very lethargic and in alot of pain. I gave her more pain meds to help. I cleaned the tubing and bile bag and reconnected it and bile started flowing freely and at a steady rate again...I wonder if that sticky fluid was causing it to back up and flushing helped clear the tubing drain again?
Either way it's a waiting game until they get her bloodworks to see IF they show anything...though last time when the drain had to be removed her bloodworks showed fine, and they were insistent it would show something if things weren't ok. Their theory failed and ultrasound showed there was a problem....I hope this doesn't become a battle again and they make her suffer needlessly again...it's already been over 24 hours of this.... I called Calgary again this morning as well in hopes they would be willing to do something sooner, like an ultrasound at the very least right away. Still waiting to hear back. It's nearly noon and Feeny is still sleeping :( I have my bags packed and ready just in case though, so there's nothing to delay us in getting to Calgary or Edmonton asap if needed.
